We all love the sound of rain pouring down from the sky. Monsoon brings with it the magic of sound, happiness, smiles, and relief from the heat and humidity of summer. However, it also brings a lot of mess, viral and bacterial infections. With the world already fighting against the coronavirus, we certainly do not want more viruses and infections in our lives.

Therefore, to stay safe and enjoy this weather to the fullest, here are some Monsoon Care Tips:

MONSOON CARE TIPS

1) AVOID STREET FOODS

It is highly recommended to steer clear of street foods if you wish to maintain good health. Consuming foods that are sold on the streets can be a risky proposition as they are often prepared in unsanitary conditions. Despite the efforts of food vendors to maintain cleanliness, it is difficult to ensure proper hygiene, particularly in inclement weather. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid eating street foods altogether to reduce the risk of falling ill.

2) AVOID HAVING PRE-CUT SALADS AND FRUITS

It is advisable to cut salads and fruits only at the time of consumption. It is important to note that the longer they are exposed to heat, light, and oxygen, the more rapidly they lose their vital nutrients.

Additionally, the taste and texture of these foods may also undergo changes when cut and exposed to the environment. Therefore, it is recommended to cut them only when you are ready to eat them, to ensure maximum freshness, nutritional value, and flavor.

3) HAVE MORE VITAMIN C RICH FOODS

During the monsoon season, the occurrence of viral fever, allergies, and infections is significantly higher compared to other times of the year. It is essential to take extra precautions to maintain good health during this season, and one of the most effective ways to do so is by boosting your immunity.

Consuming foods that are rich in Vitamin C is an excellent way to achieve this. Vitamin C helps to strengthen your immune system, making it better equipped to fight off illnesses and infections. Therefore, it is highly recommended to increase your intake of Vitamin C during the monsoon season to stay healthy and avoid falling sick.

4) KEEP YOURSELF DRY

During the monsoon season, the chances of contracting fungal infections increase significantly, as fungi thrive on moist skin. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to ensure that you keep yourself dry, especially in areas that are more susceptible to fungal infections, such as the scalp, toes, and groin region.

To prevent the growth of fungi, it is advisable to wear clothes that have thoroughly dried or use an iron to ensure that your clothes are completely dry, as the lack of sunlight during this season tends to make clothes damp, and dampness is a breeding ground for fungal growth.

Additionally, it is essential to pay close attention to your undergarments, as they are in constant contact with your skin and can easily harbor fungal infections if not dried properly. By taking these simple precautions, you can minimize the risk of contracting fungal infections during monsoon season.

5) AVOID HAVING CURD/YOGURT

According to Ayurveda, it is advisable to avoid consuming curd and any food items that are made from it during rainy days, particularly after sunset. This is because curd is believed to aggravate kapha dosha, which can lead to various health problems in the body.

Kapha dosha is responsible for maintaining the balance of bodily fluids, and an excess of it can cause issues such as congestion, cough, cold, and allergies. Hence, to prevent these problems, it is recommended to steer clear of curd and its derivatives during rainy days, especially in the evening.

6) DRY YOURSELF WELL, BEFORE ENTERING AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM

In case you happen to get wet either due to rain or sweat, it is essential to ensure that you dry yourself thoroughly before coming in contact with the cold air from an air-conditioner. Ignoring this precautionary measure can lead to various health issues such as the common cold, allergies, or even dandruff.

It is crucial to remember that the cold air from the AC can further aggravate the symptoms of these health problems if you come in contact with it while still being wet. Therefore, it is always advisable to dry yourself completely and then step into the cold environment to avoid any adverse effects on your health.

7) WEAR LIGHT AND COMFORTABLE CLOTHES

During this season, it's crucial to wear clothes that are both lightweight and comfortable. Opt for garments that are quick-drying in case you get caught in the rain. Synthetic materials are an excellent choice, as they tend to dry quickly after getting wet. By selecting the right clothing, you can ensure that you stay comfortable and dry, no matter what the weather throws your way.

8) COOK FRESH AND EAT FRESH

During times of cold weather, it is important to take extra care of our digestion. To ensure optimal digestion, it is recommended to consume freshly cooked foods. Preparing meals that can be finished in one sitting is preferable, as reheating leftovers can have negative effects on the quality and nutritional value of the food.

Therefore, avoiding cooking extra food is recommended, and focusing on preparing just the right amount for each meal. This will not only ensure better digestion but also help reduce food waste.

9) STAY AWAY FROM OUTSIDE PANEER(COTTAGE CHEESE)

Paneer is a delightful and creamy cottage cheese that is loved by many. However, it is important to be cautious when purchasing it from outside, especially during this season. The reason is, that it can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria, which can cause indigestion and other health problems.

Therefore, it is advisable to make paneer at home, which is a simple and easy process. All you need to do is curdle milk by adding vinegar, lemon juice, or curd, and then strain it using a strainer or cheesecloth. Your homemade paneer will be ready in no time!
It is recommended to consume it within 24 hours to ensure its freshness and to reap all of its health benefits.

10) EYE AND HAIR HYGIENE

The current season has brought with it an increased likelihood of contracting an eye infection. It is of utmost importance to exercise extreme caution when it comes to hygiene. To prevent the spread of infection, it is recommended to use wash towels and handkerchiefs exclusively for your eyes and face, and avoid sharing them with others. Before touching your face or eyes, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands. If you wear contact lenses, it is imperative to clean them daily.

Likewise, it is highly recommended to take extra precautions during rainy weather for hair care. If your hair gets wet in the rain, it's important to wash and completely dry them as soon as possible. Leaving wet hair for an extended time can result in an unhygienic moistness on the scalp, which can lead to bacterial and fungal infections, as well as itchiness. To keep your hair healthy, use hydrating shampoo and conditioner that are suitable for your hair type.

This means that vegetarians must combine different types of food to obtain all the essential amino acids required for the body to function correctly. For instance, beans and rice eaten together provide complete protein, but neither food does this when eaten in isolation because the key amino acids that are missing from beans are found in rice.
